Bookworm: News from the new Samuels Public Library

Children and youth programs

Children and youth programs include story times on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

* Toddler Story Times are at 10:15 a.m. each Wednesday and Thursday, for children up to 3-and-a-half years of age; lasts about 30 minutes.

* Preschool Story Times are at 11 a.m. each Wednesday and Thursday, for children ages 3-5; lasts 30-45 minutes.

March 10, 11 — Monkeys

March 17, 18 — Spring

March 24, 25 — Shoes

March 31 — Easter

* Big Kids Story Times are at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays for children in grades K-5.

March 11 — St. Patrick’s Day

March 18 — Jungle Animals

March 25 — Spring

* Young Adult programs vary, and include book discussions, courses, creative art and other activities for older students.

* Teen Creative Writing Club — Saturday, March 6, 2 p.m., for ages 12 and up.

* Books and Barks — Saturday, March 13, 10:30 a.m.

* Bedtime Ballet — Thursday, March 18, 7 p.m. The Old Soft shoe Junior Ballet Company presents “Alice and the Mad, Mad Tea Party.”

* Manga Meet Up — Saturday, March 20, 2 p.m.


Winter Reading Club

The Winter Reading Club has been extended through March 31. Children up to age 18 are invited to “Snuggle Up With Peter Rabbit” by curling up with some good books and coming to the library to receive prizes for what they’ve read. Special Programs

Saving Monticello, Saturday, March 6, 3 p.m. — Historial Mark Leepson recounts the story of the Levy family’s purchase and renovation of Thomas Jefferson’s beloved estate.

Skyline Drive at 75, Tuesday, March 9, 6:30 p.m. — Warren Heritage Society Executive Director Patrick Farris recounts the history of Skyline Drive.

Hamlet in 40 Minutes, Saturday, March 13, 2 p.m. — The Traveling Players Ensemble presents an abridged production of Shakespeare’s classic.

Master Gardeners Series, Saturday, March 13, 3:30 p.m. — The topic is Vegetables and Herbs: From Plants to Harvest.

Vibes at the Libes, Friday, March 19, 12:30-1:30 p.m. — Monthly lunchtime music series, featuring Wise Women III., performing traditional folk music and old-time songs, as well as original pieces by each of the three Wise Women.

Winter Tree Identification Seminar, Monday, March 22, 10 a.m.-Noon — Indoor lab work with twig samples and outside tree identification with the Front Royal-Warren County Tree Stewards.

Virginia Birds of Prey, Saturday, March 27, 2 p.m. — Presented by the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center.

Retirement U — A monthly financial planning series. Classes are on Thursday evenings from 7-8 p.m.

* March 15 — Life Style Considerations.
